Religious Literacy Assessment - A Rich Learning Task

8/19/2015

We've got our criteria, we've got our plan and now we are executing our presentation. Go Year 4!

Today we recorded students' dances onto iPads and edited them in iMovie. Their ability to integrate technology and problem solve is very impressive. What an array of talents they possess! We've got other students creating models out of clay, others are graphic artists. We have some girls making creation prayer cloths and a student making a felt board with a script to match - so it's essentially a story-telling kit that others can engage with (so cool!). We have artists painting on canvas and students making Keynote presentations. All of these ideas will ultimately showcase what they have come to know about God as creator, creation and their place in creation. We can't wait to see the end result. Keep up the hard work!

Feast Day of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop

Many thanks to all of the teachers, students and parents for their participation and reverence in our Saint Mary of the Cross liturgy, and to Father Sarkis for leading us in our prayer.

Following the liturgy people were able to reflect on the virtues of Mary through viewing the creative work and tributes on display throughout our school. Each Stage was given a particular virtue of Mary to contemplate and show in a creative response. We were blown away by the depth of knowledge and love put into these displays.
ES1 - Woman of God
Stage 1 - Woman of Action
Stage 2 - Woman of Courage
Stage 3 - Woman of Compassion

After lunch, all students participated in our annual Walkathon.  As is our tradition at Our Lady Help of Christians, monies collected through fundraising will be used to contribute to religious icons for our school.

Check out the gallery below for some pics!

Mary MacKillop was Canonised as Australia‘s first saint in 2010. Throughout her life Mary continually lived out her motto to ̳Never see a need without doing something about it.‘ May we strive to live like Mary in all we do and say and let God into our lives like she did.

Mary MacKillop Prayer

Ever generous God,

You inspired Saint Mary MacKillop

To live her life faithful to the Gospel of Jesus Christ

and constant in bringing hope and encouragement

to those who were disheartened, lonely or needy.

With confidence in your generous providence

and joining with Saint Mary MacKillop

we ask that you grant our request .................

We ask that our faith and hope be fired afresh by the Holy Spirit

so that we too, like Mary MacKillop, may live with courage, trust and openness.

Ever generous God hear our prayer

We ask this through Jesus Christ

Amen.
