OLHC 'Sock It' to Poverty during October
At Our Lady Help of Christians we held a crazy sock day and teachers made personality puppets and students donated to the favourite sock. We had a movie viewing of Happy Feet and contributed to the 'Lunch Bag' appeal. Together, we helped to Build God's Church in Mongolia, the world's youngest Catholic Church.
St. Mary of the Cross Feast Day Celebrations
A powerful liturgy was held on the Feast Day for St. Mary of the Cross. Each grade made a special contribution to the life of our liturgy. Following the liturgy, we held our annual Walk-A-Thon which raised money towards our sculpture
garden.
Our Lady Help of Christians Feast Day!
On Friday the 24th of May the staff, students, family and friends of Our Lady Help of Christians school joined together with John Therry staff and students in the William E. Murray Hall to celebrate the feast day of Mary Help of Christians, the patroness of not only our Parish of Rosemeadow but also the first patron saint of Australia. Our parish priest Father Sarkis led the faith community gathered together in a beautiful celebration along with the joyous musical accompaniment of the John Therry band and choir. Thank you to all the parents, friends and members of the parish community who attended.
Andrew Chinn visits for an Easter concert - Celebrating the Risen Lord!
Students, teachers and parents were delighted to welcome Andrew back to Our Lady Help of Christians Parish School on Wednesday 1st May. Andrew hosted a series of workshops during the day for each Stage, teaching students songs of praise and thanksgiving, centring around the theme of 'Easter, Celebrating the Lord's Resurrection'. The afternoon concert was a memorable and interactive celebration of faith and was thoroughly enjoyed by adults and children alike. Thank you Andrew for helping us keep the spirit alive!
Holy Week Liturgy, 28th March 2013
On Holy Thursday, students, teachers and parents gathered on the basketball courts for our Holy Week Liturgy. Each grade prepared a reflection that consisted of a reading and prayer, highlighting a significant event in the final week of our Lord's life. Set to a soundtrack, featuring the work of Andrew Chinn, students danced and dramatised the events of Holy Week with great reverence.
Catholic School's Week and G'Day Celebrations,
10th - 16th March 2013
This year, in Catholic Schools Week, were reminded that 'Every Child Counts'. To celebrate this and the work, talents and achievements of our students, our school hosted a variety of events throughout the week, to which visitors and family members were invited to attend. Highlights of the week included a student talent showcase, Book Fair, National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence workshops, G'Day Mass, Storytelling Pedagogy for parents (presented by Beth Riolo) and open classroom (showcasing Storytelling in action). Thank you to all of our visitors for celebrating with us!

Beginning Year Mass and Captain's Commissioning,
15th February 2013
Today we gathered as a Catholic School Community of Faith, Love and Learning. We gave thanks to God for keeping us safe over the holidays and we asked for God's continual blessings upon our students, teachers and support staff, members of our parent body, our parish and our priests Father Sarkis and Father Dowdell.
This year, our class candles were designed to include the Year of Faith logo as well as our school's Vision and Mission statement. These candles will be placed on our classroom and office prayer spaces and will be used to remind us that Jesus is the light of the world, and to serve as a reminder to each of us that, as baptised members of the Body of Christ, we too, are called to bring light to others. At the conclusion of Mass Father Sarkis blessed our new student leaders for 2013. Our Captains, Vice Captain and House Captains received their badges and candles. Together they recited their pledge of commitment. We are so proud of you and we have faith that you will lead our student body to always 'seek wisdom and love God'. Congratulations to: Georgina Seton and Benjamin Dzevlan (School Captains) Jasmin Hagopian and Diego Castro-Eastman (Vice Captains) Alanna Taber and Daniel Rzepecki (MacKillop House Captains) Amelia Aguiar and William Limbrey (Ingham House Captains) Sarah Corby and Nathan Rolfe (Sarkis House Captains) Rebecca Saywell and Harrison Fazio (Rose House Captains) |
